I am currently going to school in Arkansas but I am a resident of Texas with of course a permanent address there too. (my parents house) I’m looking into buying a new motorcycle in Arkansas and will need to take care of all the legal stuff in Texas (registration, taxes, etc…)
My assumption of how I should take care of it is this:
1. Purchase the bike.
2. Purchase insurance on the bike.
3. Go to local tax office where I’m from and register and pay taxes on the bike.
Has anybody done this before and could let me know exactly.
Does anybody know what the tax rate in Texas is?…I think it’s 8% but can’t remember.
I don’t know the tax rate, but you will have to be named on your parents Insurance policy (because all licensed drivers living in a household) have to be named. In Texas, if you have your own Insurance, you may not have to.
I live in California and I was wondering what I would be getting myself into if I got a salvage titled bike. Can I get liability through insurance from AAA. The bike is a 2008 Honda CBR600rr. He said that it’s salvage due to a small scratch on the rear. Is it possible to be salvaged just from that?

This is the link to the ad I was interested in. If you look at the bottom picture, he says that its salvage due to the small scratch. Is it possible?
Why is the “owner” selling it if it is just a scratch issue? The bike is only 1 model year old.
The problem with a salvage title is-you have to find and fix the problems that totaled the bike out, before you take it to the (usually) nearest State Police inspection facility and drop it off for a few weeks, until they get time to go over it. sometimes they will do it that day, but my experience has been it is you drop the bike off and when they get time, they will go over it with a fine tooth comb. If the bike passes, then no problem, they will put an inspection sticker on it and stamp the title as “reconstructed”. If it does not pass, you will be given X amount of days to make the necc. repairs and return the vehicle for another inspection. Even after it is inspected, you will then have to apply for a “reconstructed” title-which will somewhat clear the title, but not entirely. Then when you go to get insurance as Bart said you will pay at least 2X as much as a never wrecked bike-some scam the insurance companies run, hey?
ok, so i’m in a new state. i have a motorcycle permit (state won’t let me get a licence yet). i know where i’m going to buy my bike. i’m not sure in which order i should get all the legal stuff done in.
for example. should i buy insurance, buy the bike, get it registered and get plates, or some other order? i’m confused on the right way to do everything. thanks in advance.
In my state insurance isn’t required. (It IS a good thing to have).
Here we buy them, register them, and then get insurance.
You should probably start with the license. I don’t know if you’re allowed to test ride with just a permit.
