moped insurance france

Do I need a driver’s license and insurance?

Do I need a full French driver’s license and vehicle insurance to drive a scooter/moped in France, legally.

Having lived in france for a few years and dealing with the french administration I can tll you that tere are a few options and theydepend on how long you will be there.

If you are going for less than a year you can use your english license as long as your have the CAT A on your license. If all your ave is provisional then you may not be able to, but I can find out more if tha is the case. More than this and you WILL have to get a full french license, which is a straight swap at the prefecture of your Departement.

For insurance, if you are getting a french moped, get your insurance in France, but they will want to you swap your license after a year. If you have an english moped you can either get insurance here and get the additional abroad option as known as la carte verte, costly if going for more than a month. You can also get insurance over in france but you will have to frenchify it, ie exporting it from the uk and getting it registered in france, a process which is a pain in the @r$e!!

Any more on this subject drop me a msg
