cheap insurance for moped

April 9th, 2010 by The Rider

Want to buy a moped, how much will one cost?

I need some advice concerning buying a moped or a small motorbike for use in London. I’ve done a bit of research into it, but there are still a couple of questions I’ve got.

Ideally, I’d like a moped that can carry two passengers. I don’t really care whether it’s 50cc or 125cc+ just that it’ll be able to get me around with a passenger. The Honda ‘Lead’ looks alright, but does anyone have any cheaper suggestions? I’ve been told that it’s wiser to buy a new vehicle as second hand bikes can be terribly unreliable.

I’m taking my car practical test in the next few weeks so I should have a full driver’s license soon (if I pass, haha).

Does this mean I still have to take the CBT? How much is tax and insurance roughly? Will I still have to wear learner plates? Will I be able to carry another passenger legally?

Best answer goes to the most informative post : )

Thank you!

A 50cc will carry 2 but very slowly as they only have enough power to get to about 30 mph with a rider only – doable but deadly dull and not practical. You would need a CBT but no l plates to ride a 50cc.

If you get a 125 you still need a CBT but your car licence counts for nothing and L plates are required. A 125 will cope with a passenger but will be cramped and a bit slow. This will not matter much until you pass a bike test as with L plate on a provisional bike licence you CANNOT CARRY A PASSENGER.

In a nutshell, pass test on a 125cc and you can then start carrying passengers – otherwise NO PASSENGERS. London Police regularly stop small bikes two up as a lot try to break this law and you could easily clock up 6 points and lose that nice new licence.

You can pick up some new chinese made bikes for £750 and go up to Japanese and Italian 125cc at just short of £3000
Insurance will cost anywhere from £60 to £1000 depending on age and cover you want.
Cannot remember what tax is but look on the link I give you below for lots more info.

motorcycle insurance for Kawasaki ninja 250R?

I was just wondering if anyone could give me an idea of the costs for the insurance for a Kawasaki ninja 250R. i am 18 and iv never received a ticket so i believe that my driving record is clean.I don’t have any insurance policy of my own yet. Will my insurance costs be through the roof because of my age or do they just go of the cc of the bike? also i know the cost will depend on the company so your opinions on the best motorcycle insurance company would be greatly appreciated. :] thank you
I live in California and i am probably looking for full coverage but if that is to pricey then just liability.

Help yourself – you can check your quotes in internet, for example here – autoinsurance.noneto.com

Discount Scooter Insurance – Find the Best Cheap Coverage Plan

With the price of gas rising daily the public interest in scooters is on the rise. Scooters and motorcycles have been part of our culture for a long time as a cheap mode of transportation. The scooter is inexpensive and enables the driver to have some level of comfort without too much labor.

Learn how to find: Discount Scooter Insurance

We can thank the Italians for the scooter with there development of the Vespa. Scooters can be seen as a mode of transportation all over Europe and the Far East. Scooters are easy to park on narrow streets making them a desirable mode of transportation when parking is at a premium.

Get some Advice about: Types of Insurance

Yamaha and Honda realize the growth in the scooter market in the late 20th century when we had our last gas crisis and they took advantage of this new business with many new and sharp looking models. This resulting in taking a large share of the scooter business in the American market.

But remember owning a scooter is like owning any motor vehicle that when you purchase it you need to also get the best coverage for your scooter. In the event you are in a accident you must have adequate insurance to cover yourself in case you have injuries or that any other person gets hurt.

Shopping for scooter insurance is like looking for any other insurance, do your homework, get more than one estimate, compare rates and benefits. When you finally decide on coverage make sure that you are comfortable with it. Owning a scooter can be both a fun and inexpensive way to get around, just make sure you are covered properly in the event you get into an accident.
