Why should I contribute to the New Orleans cause?

The people who live in New Orleans CHOSE to live in a prone flood zone. They CHOSE to live in a prone hurricane area. They CHOSE not to have insurance on their homes, businesses, cars and property. They were TOLD to leave ahead of the storm…they didn’t. Those who remained LOOTED an estimated 1.2 BILLION dollars in merchandise.
So far, over a BILLION dollars in aid has been ‘lost’ or misappropriated.
Over 75% of all FEMA cards were used to buy things other than items needed for daily survival needs. (one guy bought a new motorcycle with stolen FEMA cards)

So, why should I help in any way? Why should I feed the greed? Why should I donate money when the chance is 47% that my money will not make it to someone in need?

Why isn’t anyone as furious about this as I am?

I am not sure where all of your information is from but here are a few bits I feel that you know about the New Orleans area.

1. Most individuals in New Orleans area had flood insurance. About 67% of the total homeowners. One of the highest insured rates in the country.

2. Not everyone looted in New Orleans. People here are hard working and honest for the most part. There are 10 – 20 thousand bad apples in a city of about 500,000 before Katrina.

3. When you address the FEMA cards you are only addressing a small portion of FEMA monies. Most people who didn’t go to shelters had their money deposited like most people into a bank account. THe highest fraud would come from the most dispensable source of funds. Prepaid credit cards. Also it is important to note many people drove hundreds of miles to apply at shelters for disaster relief. People not from New Orleans. So are New Orleanians responsible for other state’s fraudsters?

4. As far as the people that didn’t leave. If they were young, capable, or able to leave , then they should have and I have no sympathy for them.

My sympathies are clearly with the individuals that COULD NOT leave. Not the individuals that WOULD NOT leave.

Just make sure you use that distinction when thinking of New Orleans.

5. Many people are furious about many things. Mostly because this is a huge problem. You can drive for 3 hours east of New Orleans International Airport (MSY) and still have massive amounts of destruction. So massive amounts of money and time will be required to solve this problem.

6. When looking at this issue it is also important to not the impact the federal goverment has had in the over all causation of the issue in New Orleans. Political fighting in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for almost half a century caused poor descions to be made covering the Mississippi River Delta and the Louisiana Coastline. Also look at the impact of Federal projects like the Mississippi River Gulf Outlet. The federal goverment and the commerce from the states North of Louisiana are partly to blame for this catastrophe. For 50 years Louisiana has been screaming about the damage being done to our coast due to reckless operations in controlling sedimentation and hydrology in the marsh and Mississippi river systems.

Louisiana to say nicely was raped for 50 years to produce a naviagble port and oil revenues to the federal goverment.

7. I always evacuate and if you watch this video you will see why you should as well.

motorcycle insurance classification

July 20th, 2009 by The Rider

An accident can take you unawares. Unprepared as you are against the shock, you suffer both a mental trauma as well as a financial crisis. Damage control is necessary to keep life in order these days. Minimise your damages by taking protection coverage of Auto Insurance.

Myriad companies operate in the market; skim through to know which one would suit you best. Compare the premium rates offered and then choose. To know how auto insurance rates are fixed and what the various determiners are, read on further.

There are various criteria that influence the insurance rates offered to you. The Auto Insurance companies measure the risk that each customer poses through their numerous personal variables. A driving record is the most important of these. Other than your driving record, what these companies want is your age, marital status, sex, vehicle classification etc. Recently, credit history has also started being assessed during calculation of premium rates.

Driving Record
This is the most obvious and most important of all variables. If you have an experienced and clean driving record, your being responsible behind the wheel is amply proved. Insurance companies, if satisfied on this ground, can propose really low rates on insurance policies. A tainted driving record, obviously, works against you and you end up paying more.

Automobile Classification
Compact cars and luxury cars are charged lesser as compared to sports vehicles and muscle cars. Motorcyclists can also get a low premium as the damages caused by motorcycles are relatively less. Automobile model and make is therefore, always asked for.

Age
The age group of 16-25 years is considered to be the most accident prone. There is impressive statistical evidence against youngsters of deviant rule-breaking behaviour, risk taking, rash driving and drunken driving. So, if you are a young driver, you fall in the category of high casualties group. Be prepared to pay more on your auto insurance cover.

Gender
Figures claim that women are less involved in accidents as compared to men. This distinction is more pronounced among the young group of drivers and usually dissolves with maturity. Males are considered to be more aggressive, defiant and rash; thus more accident-prone. This is why men have to bear with this gender discrimination issue and pay more for their liability coverage.

Some Other Determiners
Often companies offer lower rates to married drivers. Marriage signifies maturity and responsibility in a person. Quite recently, auto insurance companies have started probing the credit ratings of their customers as well. People with a good credit history are thought to be equally responsible while driving; thus they get lower premium rates. This criterion has been criticised and opposed for being ‘elitist’.

All this data is compiled in the statistical form. An actuary is then derived from these figures. It depicts the chances of future insurance claims. Premium rates are determined accordingly. It’s best to ask for free auto insurance quotes from a few companies that you are interested in dealing with. Quotes can help you compare and decide on the best insurance cover. Wishing you lots of luck ahead!

About the Author:

The price of an auto insurance policy may vary from one company to another. So, it becomes essential to compare the premium rates offered by reputable companies prior to choosing a policy. The auto insurance rates may further vary on the basis of your credit rating.

motorcycle insurance nc

When you’re out riding your motorcycle, do you wear a helmet? If you answered No to this question you should reconsider your reasoning for not wearing one. Truth be told, the motorcycle helmet is a very important piece of equipment that all motorcyclists should wear when they ride for a number of reasons. Some of the reasons for wearing one include protection, comfort, and legal reasons.

One of the most important reasons why motorcyclists wear helmets is because they help protect you if you happen to crash while riding. They are not guaranteed to save your life or prevent you from serious injury every time, but they will certain help your chances most of the time. Helmets are designed to protect your head in the event of a fall or crash. This is made possible because motorcycle helmets are made from tough and durable materials that are made to hold up in high impact collisions. Helmets are tested and retested to make sure that meet certain standards so that they are safe for riders to wear. Protecting yourself while you’re riding is very important, so that is why it is just as important that you equip yourself with the proper safety equipment, including helmets.

Another reason why motorcycle helmets are so important is because they help keep you comfortable on your motorcycle ride in a number of ways. First off, if you’re riding in cold temperatures, helmets will help create a shield against the wind which will help keep you warm, or at least you will not be directly exposed to the chilling wind. Full face motorcycle helmets will provide the best protection against the wind and rain since they cover your entire head, including your face. So if you’re wearing a helmet, you’re more likely to stay warm and comfortable in cold riding conditions than if you weren’t wearing a helmet.

Finally, another obvious reason for wearing a helmet is that it may be required by law. If your state is one of the states that has a helmet law, then you already know that it is illegal to not wear a helmet while riding. In this case, the question of whether or not to wear a helmet is pretty simple since you only have one right answer, unless you want to get fined. Some states do not require that helmets be worn while riding, but it is still strongly suggested that riders wear helmets just to be on the safe side.

If you’re questioning why you should wear a motorcycle helmet, hopefully we’ve given you a few good reasons for wearing a helmet and you’ll consider doing so whenever you ride. After all, you’ll be much more safe, comfortable, and if your state has a helmet law, legal.
